If you are running League Master from a laptop, then you will not
be able to use these short-cuts, but for most people, these will
save you a great deal of time.
3. Know What Happens When You Press a
Key
By default, although you can change it (select Menus - Entering
Results - Entering Scores), Auto Increment and Auto Fill will be
turned on.
Auto Increment means that when you press a key to enter
a score in the grid, it will automatically move on to the next square
in the grid.
Auto Fill means that the corresponding score in a match
will be filled in for you. So, if you enter an 'N' for a square
to show that the match was not played, then the corresponding square
of the match will have an 'N' put in automatically. Likewise, if
you enter a 'W' to signify the player was given a walkover, then
the corresponding square of the match will have an 'L' put in it.
Also, if you entered a score in a square after you had mistakenly
entered an 'N', then the corresponding 'N' will be removed.
The best way to work this out is to play around and see for yourself
how it works.
You can also use the cursor or 'arrow' keys to move around the
grid.
4. Entering Scores
You might be tempted to use the arrow keys quite a bit, but try
not to. If you come to a square that already has a digit in it,
don't use the arrow key to move onto the next blank square - just
hit the correct key for that entry. It takes no longer to do and
it means that your concentration can be on the score sheet that
you are copying from, rather than the screen.
Get used to not looking at the screen much. Look at the results
sheet and get to know where the short cut keys are. Just key in
row after row and don't worry about checking for errors yet. Not
only will League Master not let you enter an invalid score, but
it is much quicker to do a quick visual check at the end. Once you
are sure the box is right, then press the Enter key and if it calculates
OK (the bar to the left of the box name will turn from red to green),
then press the + key to move onto the next box.
5. Making Alterations
Once you have completed the entry of scores, click on the Process button and you will be taken to the Alterations screen.
While this provides all the tools you need, once again there is
a procedure that you should follow:
a) Make Rule Changes
If you wish to change the Rules, you should do so first. Regardless
of the divisions and box sizes used, the players in the Results
List are in order. Changing any rules that effect box sizes or
divisions will retain this order so that if the changes split
an existing box, the higher position players will be in the higher
box.
b) Remove Players
You should remove any players who will not be in the next league
period. They can always be added again later if necessary or in
the future.
c) Add Players
Any member who you wish to add to the leagues should be done last
and should be done by adding the highest placed player first
and then working down the league. It you do not start with
the highest placing, you may end up with a player you have already
added ending up in a league below where you expected because those
above have been shuffled down to allow for the new players.
What if a player is obviously in the wrong box and I want to
move them up or down?
Simply use the Up and Down buttons and you will override the calculated
positions.
When you are sure your new league is as you require, click Finish,
the league will be processed and you will be asked for an end date
for the new league period.
